What Texas's New CE Broker Requirement Means for Continuing Education Providers

News & Updates

As of September 1, 2026, Texas Medical Board (TMB) licensees who have a continuing education requirement must report their completed coursework through CE Broker before they can renew a license. Texas is following a path Florida set more than a decade ago, and it most likely won't be the last state to take it.

For associations delivering that coursework, the change lands on you as much as on your learners.

What Changed in Texas

Under Senate Bill 912, passed in 2025, Texas regulatory agencies now have to verify continuing education through a tracking system before a license renews, rather than checking after the fact. The Texas Medical Board named CE Broker as its official system.

A few points matter for providers:

  • The requirement took effect September 1, 2026, for TMB licensees with a CE requirement, including physicians, physician assistants, and several other license types.
  • Credits reported under another state's license don't transfer on their own.

The requirement is now in effect and reaches licensees as their renewal dates arrive. The shift is timing: reporting comes before renewal, and a record CE Broker can't verify can stall it.

Why This Matters for CE Providers

Licensees carry the renewal obligation, but the reporting usually runs through the organizations that deliver the education. When your learners expect their credits to show up in CE Broker, your reporting becomes part of the experience you provide.

This hits hardest for medical associations, academic health systems, and CME organizations with learners in more than one state. A physician licensed in both Texas and Florida might report faithfully for years, open CE Broker, and assume Texas is covered. Then they find the credits sitting under the wrong license. Providers who report accurately and to the right license from the start are the ones who spare learners that surprise.

What This Means for Your Organization

If you serve learners in Texas, Florida, or another CE Broker state, a few steps now will save trouble later:

  • Know your reporting path. Be clear on how completed credits reach CE Broker for each state and profession you serve, and how fast.
  • Get learner details right. Reporting only works when each learner's profession and license number are complete and correct in your system.
  • Remind learners before their next renewal. A short nudge to set up a free CE Broker account keeps multi-state learners out of a last-minute bind.
  • Expect state-by-state differences. Professions, rules, and timelines vary. A program that handles that cleanly is easier to scale as more states require tracking.

How EthosCE Supports CE Broker Reporting

EthosCE is the learning management system healthcare professionals trust to manage the complexities of continuing healthcare education. CE Broker reporting is built in, alongside ACCME PARS, JA PARS, MOC, and CPE Monitor, so your accreditation and reporting work lives in one place.

That takes the manual tracking off your team's plate. Credits reach CE Broker without the spreadsheet assembly and follow-up that eat into staff time, and your learners see their hours land where the state expects them at renewal. As more states adopt mandatory tracking, a program already set up to report cleanly is ready for the next one.
